For more than 15 years now, Safran has been supplying Russian airlines such as Aeroflot, S7 and Transaero with engines.
The Russian air transport market is once again showing signs of growth. CFM56 engines also power aircraft for airlines in other CIS countries, namely Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Turkmenistan.
More than 230 aircraft powered by CFM56 engines are now in service with 20 Russian airlines and operators, and another 230 CFM56 engines are on order. Aeroflot Russian Airlines has been a CFM customer since 1998. In June 2009, Aeroflot has achieved TRUEngineTM status for 102 of the CFM56-5B engines powering their A320 family aircraft. The TRUEngineTM designation is available to all CFM56 engines meeting the criteria.
Along with this commercial success, Snecma (Safran group) is developing partnerships with Russian industry. Its two main partners are NPO Saturn and VSMPO. Since 2000, for example, Snecma’s strategic partner NPO Saturn has manufactured parts for all versions of the CFM56, including guide vanes, cast structural parts, and machined rotating parts, in a range of materials.
