Sagem, part of the Safran Group, has been working with Russian industry for 20 years, primarily as a supplier of inertial navigation and optronic equipment. The company has teamed up with Russian manufacturers to expand its scope of business and extend its presence in these two sectors.

In the optronics market, for instance, Sagem supplied third-generation Matis thermal cameras to Russian prime contractor KBP. Intended for systems sold in both the Russian and export markets, these cameras are used by all three branches of the armed forces, on armored vehicles, surface ship self-protection systems and the Pantzir air defense system. During the Paris Air Show in June 2007, Sagem signed an agreement with Ural Optical & Mechanical Plant (UOMP) to create a joint venture for the production and maintenance in Russia of third-generation thermal cameras.

Sagem, a world leader in inertial navigation, supplies laser gyro navigation units to the avionics company Ramenskoye. These systems are fitted on Russian combat aircraft sold in export markets (India, Malaysia, Yemen, Algeria, etc.).

The Sigma 95 laser gyro inertial reference unit developed by Sagem is used on various versions of the MiG-29, as well as all Sukhoi SU-30 fighters deployed by the Indian armed forces. In addition, Sagem supplied “navalized” navigation systems for the carrier-borne MiG-29K aircraft sold to India.

Sagem has also entered the helicopter modernization market, through collaboration agreements with Rosoboron Export to offer Mi-24 and Mi-35 modernization packages in export markets.
