Safran Electronics & Defense - A global leader in aerospace and defense electronics

Measurement - Ring-laser-gyro technology

Safran Electronics & Defense is one of the world's leading suppliers of products and services for civil and defense applications, specializing in optronics, avionics, electronics and safety-critical software.

Safran Electronics & Defense applies advanced technologies in a number of areas, driving its contribution to innovative aerospace and defense programs. Drawing on its long experience, the company helps boost the efficiency of combat platforms, as well as air transport safety. Its business is centered around three main centers of expertise: optronics, avionics, and electronics and safety-critical software.

The Optronics (electro-optical) unit designs portable observation systems and optronics systems for land vehicles, aircraft and submarines. It also oversees the FELIN soldier modernization program, based on integrated equipment suites for modern warfighters. In addition, Safran Electronics & Defense makes the silicon-carbide mirrors for the Gaia satellite, which will map a billion stars – in 3D.

The Avionics division makes inertial and hybrid navigation systems, along with sensors. Safran Electronics & Defense also offers its customers a full suite of flight data analysis services under the Cassiopée label.

The Electronics and Critical Software unit develops sophisticated software for onboard systems, and makes printed circuit boards and computers, primarily for engine control, flight control and landing and braking systems. The Airbus A380 and Boeing 787 jetliners both use these products, as do the A400M military transport, the Rafale fighter and the NH90 and Caracal helicopters.

Safran Electronics & Defense is the world's leading supplier of helicopter flight controls and engine control systems (for commercial aircraft, in partnership with BAE Systems), and is the European leader in optronics systems, inertial navigation and tactical drone systems.

Operating worldwide, Safran Electronics & Defense has 7,500 employees.
